Kickboxing Do's at RMA Karate Centres

Kickboxing at RMA Karate Centres in Barrie is not your regular cardio kickboxing class.  Led by instructor and World Karate & Kickboxing Champion Tressa Young, the RMA Kickboxing classes have participants doing bag work, partner work and more!  

Utilizing the drills and skills used to bring Tressa Young to the world class level, everyone works hard and has a great time in class. 

RMA DUO WIN IN WINDSOR!

Eleven-year-old black belt Sale Berube and her father, purple belt Shamus Berube, gave a strong performance at the Southern Ontario Open Championships in Windsor.  The duo, who train under world champion Tressa Young, attended the event on May 3rd giving it their all among tough competition from Ontario and the United States.  

Daughter Sale won 3 third places and 1 fourth place while Dad (Shamus) won 2 first places, 1 second place and had his chance at the Grand Champion division.  The Berubes along with 6 others from Tressa Young’s RMA Karate Centres in Barrie are headed to the national team trials in Ottawa this Victoria long weekend.  It is there they hope to qualify for the national team who will be headed to the world karate and kickboxing championships in Florida this fall.

No Limit To Their Success

There truly are no limits to the success the RMA martial artists can achieve and the proof was in their latest competition.  Six students from RMA Karate Centres participated in the No Limits International tournament in Oakville on June 6^th with all of them having improved skills and results.

Black belt Sale Berube won one gold and four bronze medals in the 12 and under divisions.  Brown belt Shamus Berube won one gold and two silver medals in the Men’s 35 years and over divisions.

Brown belt Sam Stubbs won one silver and two bronze medals in the boys’ 11/12 years division.  Purple belt Jacob Allen won two silver medals and was a finalist in the boys’ 13/14 years division.  Purple Belt Wesley Wu gave a strong performance in the boys’ 9/10 years division finishing as a finalist in his divisions.  

Blue belt Alyson Caron gave her best performance yet in the girls’ 9/10 divisions winning two gold medals and a finalist placement.  Caron went on to compete in the grand champion divisions for her gold medal divisions and placed third among several experienced competitors.

The athletes continue to train in their regular karate classes and extra competition classes to ready themselves for their next event.

Navigating the Strike Through Karate Care

In preparation of the looming elementary school’s teacher strike RMA Karate Centres will be offering Karate Care where children aged 4 years and up can come in for the full day of karate classes, games, outdoor playtime, movies and more. 

“The goal is to give parents a safe place for their children to stay at an affordable fee.  The children will have fun, learn some karate skills and be at a safe place helping the parents feel more at ease.  Offering substantial discounts including the third child being free will help many of the parents navigate the teachers’ strike”, instructor Tressa Young stated.  

We are already receiving reservations for children in case of a full teacher strike.  Have you reserved your child's spot yet?  First child is full fee, second child receives 20% off and the third child is free.

Free Kickboxing Class Lead By World Champion

Getting a great response for your FREE kickboxing class this Monday March 9th 7pm at our South Barrie location (570 Bryne Dr)

After the free class you will be given a rate $15 per month if you wish to continue with no commitment or contract.

If there is enough interest from people we will be adding a daytime class. At the end of the free class on Monday we will be asking anyone interested in a daytime class to let us know so we can set one up.

TIME TO KICK INTO FITNESS

A successful world champion kickboxer in Barrie is hoping to get more people fighting fit when she holds a free open event.  The RMA Karate Centres south Barrie location is holding a FREE open class this Monday March 9^th where any fitness level 13 years and up can take part in the kickboxing class.  

The event is taking place at the RMA Karate Centres 570 Bryne Drive at 7pm. 

World champion kickboxer Tressa Young said: "I want people to come along and learn what the kickboxing class is all about.  I am a world and national champion in the sport of kickboxing teaching at the two RMA Karate Centres clubs here in Barrie.”   

She added: "There are multiple benefits from doing kickboxing. There is the health, fitness and also the social side of things.   The class is perfect for all fitness levels from beginner to advance.” 

RMA Karate Centres has been running for the past ten years, five of which Tressa Young has been a full time instructor in the kickboxing, fitness, extreme and karate programs. 

Young mentioned the open event is a chance for people to learn more about the sport of kickboxing free of charge.  And all Monday night participants will be receiving a month-by-month special fee of only $15 allowing them to get fit without breaking the bank.
