Several Barrie martial artists were in Ottawa Victoria long
weekend giving their best in hopes of making the World Karate & Kickboxing
Commission’s Canadian national team. The martial artists who train under
world champion Tressa Young, train out of RMA Karate Centres and gave
everything they had with amazing results. Only the top 4 competitors in
every division qualified for the national team to represent Canada at the world
championships in Florida this November and RMA came home with 13 medals from
four of their students who made the team.
Second degree black belt and RMA instructor Tara Krale won 2
gold, 1 silver and 4 bronze medals in the women’s 35 years plus
divisions. Junior black belt and RMA assistant instructor Sale Berube won
3 bronze medals in the girls 10 years and under division.
Purple belt Shamus Berube won 1 bronze medal and secured a
fourth placement in the men’s 35 years plus divisions. Wushu student Eden
McGuire won 1 gold, 1 bronze medal and a fourth placement in the girls 16-17
years divisions.
First time national competitors Jacob Allen and Alyson Caron
gave a strong performance in their respective divisions placing well among
their stronger more experienced competitors and with the new experience under
their karate belts, look forward to trying out for the team again next year.
The four national team members (Krale, Berubes and McGuire)
continue their training at RMA Karate Centres in preparation for the upcoming
world championships. To learn more about the competitors or the programs
