MORE THAN WINNING
The students at RMA Karate Centres train in preparation for
the many competitions they attend throughout the year. The competition
team instructors at RMA stress the rewards of competition that go beyond the
ring but into the student’s daily life. Understanding that
competition is character building, teammates and instructors provide support at
the events cheering and giving advice for improvement.
“The most important key to our competition team members
success is for them to train and when training to give their best so that when
at the competition they are prepared and can demonstrate their best skill to
the judges. Yes the students go to compete but the best part is when they
cheer on their fellow team mates and when they socialize with so many other
martial artists their own age from across the country.” RMA instructor and
competition team coach Craig Ridout said.
The RMA Dragons competition team recently attended a martial
arts Tournament in Mississauga (NMAC) where they did extremely well for their
first event of the year.
First degree black belt Tara Graham won second in
traditional weapons and fifth in traditional forms. Junior black belt
Sale Berube, who competed in the black belt divisions for the first time, won
second in sparring, third in Korean forms, third in musical forms, fourth in
traditional weapons and fourth in traditional forms.
Brown belt Sam Stubbs won second in weapons and fourth in
forms. Purple belt Shamus Berube won second in forms and second in
sparring.
Blue belt Jacob Allen was a finalist in both the forms and
weapons division. Blue belt Alyson Caron won third in forms, fifth in
weapons and fifth in sparring. Green belt Jaxon Jones won second in
sparring and fourth in forms.
